Self installation is a cost saving option for either skilled DIYers or homeowners co-ordinating their own local and trusted tradespeople. Installation can typically account for about 50% of the installed costs. It's especially suitable for solar thermal, shower heat recovery and hot water cylinders.
So, ifyou are a competent DIYer, self-builder or are having some building work done it may well work out cheaper to buy a kit and carry out or arrange the installation yourself. You won't have access to the LCBP grant, but even so it can still work out a lot cheaper overall to buy a kit.
